WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our beliefs are simple and rooted in the Bible. We believe that God wants everyone to understand the Bible and therefore we teach the Bible in simple ways. We try not to be dogmatic abut matters which other believers hold divergent views. We seek to build upon the beliefs we hold in common with other Christians, rather that try and define ourselves by our differences.
These statements of belief represent a consensus of what the leadership of our church believes the Bible teaches on key issues. This summary of beliefs is designed to help you become better acquainted with the preaching and teaching emphases you are likely to encounter at Marysville Christian Church.
Bible
We believe that the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God, without error in the original manuscripts and is our guide for daily living. The Bible is the final authority and arbitrator of determining doctrinal truth.
(2 Peter 1:21; Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16)
Trinity
We believe that there is one God, who created all things and who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three persons of the Godhead are co-equal, co-eternal, perfectly aligned and have always existed.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:4-6; 1 John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11)
Jesus
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, and that He was born of a virgin, that He lived a sinless life, that He died on the cross for our sins, rose on the third day, eventually ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again to reign in power and glory.
(Hebrews 1:1-4; 1 John 1:29; 1 John 5:20; Matthew 1:20; 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; John 1:1-3)
Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity and that He lives inside each believer, empowering us for daily living.
(2 Corinthians 13:14; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13).
Sin
We believe that people are created by God in his image (Genesis 1:27), but we have separated ourselves from God through sin and need His saving grace.
(Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 2:5; 5:12-21)
Salvation
The forgiveness of sins is only available through the person and shed blood of Jesus Christ. Salvation is the free gift of God’s grace and cannot be earned in any way. We receive God’s grace by putting faith in Christ – making Him Lord of our lives, repenting of our sin, confessing our faith in Jesus as God, and being baptized, immersed, into Christ.
(Matthew 26:28; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16; Romans 5:9; Romans 6:1-11; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 11:3; 1 Peter 1:18-19)
The Church
We believe that the church is the body of Christ and that God has called believers to gather together in local church families
(Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22, 5:24-30; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23; 1 Corinthians 12:12)
Eternal Destiny
We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person. Those who are forgiven will spend eternity with God; those not forgiven will be eternally separated from God.
(Hebrews 9:27)
Second Coming
We believe that Jesus Christ will come again in power and glory, at a time that is not disclosed in the Scriptures, and that we need to be ready for His return.
(Titus 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; John 14:1-3; Philippians 2:9-11; Matthew 24:30, 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8; Revelation 1:7 )
Marriage
We believe in the Biblical definition of marriage and that it is a sacred and holy covenant between one man and one woman in an exclusive union. That marriage is instituted by God and publicly entered into before God.
(Matthew 19:4-6, Genesis 2:18-25)
Gender
We believe that God wonderfully creates each person as either male or female as part of His design and plan. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God.
(Genesis 1:26-27; Mark 10:6)
Greatest Commandment
We believe that we are commanded to love God with all our might and our entire being, and that we demonstrate that love for Him by loving our neighbors as ourselves.
(Matthew 22:37-40; John 4:19-21; Mark 12:28-33; Romans 5:8; James 2:8; Matthew 7:12; Galatians 6:10)
